02 Taksi takes part in offsetting the adverse effects of emissions caused by traffic
Travelling is necessary but emissions can be controlled
We want to protect the environment, which is why we’re taking part in offsetting traffic-related emissions. We believe this is something many taxi users care deeply about. 02 Taksi lets you book a ride with green tyre tracks.
The emissions of our partner company rides have been offset
We offset all the emissions for the rides of our partner companies ordered through the 02 Taksi booking channels. The compensation is carried out in cooperation with Nordic Offset Oy, and the emissions calculation is done by Tampere University’s Transport Research Centre Verne.
Easily select a low-emission ride
You can also influence the amount of emissions by selecting a low-emission car. In the 02 Taksi application, low emission cars have been marked in green and electric cars in blue. When calling our telephone service, you can ask our customer service agents to tell you about the low-emission options. We also encourage our partners companies to acquire low-emission cars by highlighting them in our service.
02 Taksi offset projects in Finland and Uganda
Our carbon compensation is carried out in cooperation with Nordic Offset by investing in projects that aim at absorbing or reducing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. 02 Taksi is involved in two offset projects: the storage of CO2 in Finnish wood buildings and the Improved Cookstoves project in Uganda.
Storage of CO2 in wood buildings
Storage of CO2 in Finnish wood buildings is a Puro-certified project by Ekovilla. In the project, carbon dioxide is stored in insulating material made of recycled newspapers. The recycled paper used in the insulation comes from sustainably grown trees.
The environmental benefits of the project include
- Removal of CO2 from the atmosphere by storing it in buildings
- Use of the insulating material in both new and renovated buildings
- Use of wood fibre as a replacement for non-renewable insulating materials
- Reduction of emissions due to local production and short transport distances
Improved Cookstoves for Ugandans
In the Improved Cookstoves for Ugandan Communities project, traditional metal cookers which are based on the use of non-renewable biomass are replaced by cookers that are 50% more energy efficient and cleaner. They also reduce the need to cut down forests. Over 90% of Ugandan households use wood as the main energy source for cooking.
The social and environmental benefits of the project include:
- Savings in annual fuel costs for families
- Improvement of local air quality with the decrease in fine particle emissions
- Health benefits for women and girls, in particular
- Reduction in the time needed to gather wood and more time for more productive things such as children’s education and agricultural work
- More jobs for the local people
- Protection of environmental diversity
